Today we going talk about maps and GPS.
If you look at Shenzhen on Google Maps, you will see a bank in the middle of a lake and restaurants in the middle of streets.
But, why is that?
Every map of China is wrong.
There is an official law against making maps of China.
But, you all know that we can use Baidu Maps to get to where we want to go, at least most of the time.
That is because China uses a different satellite and has a special algorithm to change the map.
You and I won’t notice the problems with the map.
But, if you look at where Hong Kong and Mainland China come together, the roads don’t connect.
Maybe China’s laws against making maps will help avoid the situation we saw with Strava.
